Whenever self-confidence is being referred, it refers an amalgamation of self-esteem and self-efficacy, it is considered as a key part of the humanity. Self-efficacy can be termed as an internal belief that you can accomplish varied goals in your life. Self-esteem is also pretty much the same, but it focuses more towards believing that you are competent enough in your tasks and you deserve all the happiness in your life.

If you are filled with self-confidence, you will be happy to take the risks in order to reach your goals whether they are professional or personal. Above all, you will have a positive outlook about the future. If you lack self-confidence, you will be skeptical about reaching your goals and will have a negative perspective about yourself. Listed below, in no particular order, are some of the best ways to build self-confidence:

1. Knowing about negative thoughts

Negative thoughts can be like I won’t be able to do that, I will fail if I do that, and no one will pay attention to whatever I will say. The inner voice has a pessimistic and unhelpful nature, and will prevent you from being positive and achieving self-confidence.

2. Changing negative thoughts to positive

As you pay more attention towards negative thoughts make sure you turn them in positive thoughts. This will develop a positive outlook about everything that you do such as, “I can achieve success if I do a particular thing,” or, being positive that people will surely listen to whatever you will say. It is important that you start your day with a positive thought and try to remain positive throughout the day. All those representatives, working at call centers, have to deal with customers who are commonly complaining about the company and their services. This is where you have to maintain a positive mindset with which you offer them solutions. This also helps to build confidence overall.

3. Restrict negative thoughts

You should try and stay positive all the time. This will help you in developing more positive thoughts in your mind instead of negative. The more you are able to confront your negative thoughts with positivity, the more natural it will become for you.

4. Overcome your fear

Everybody has fears, but you have to try to overcome them. You may think that all those people who are self-confident don’t have any fear, but this is just an illusion. There are strong chances that you might have a fear of speaking in front of others who are unknown to you, asking for a raise from your boss or while introducing yourself. The moment you beat your fears, you end up become self-confident and you will feel a certain boost in you.

5. Have patience

There are times that you have to travel backward in order to move forward. Make sure that you are aware of the fact that self-confidence is never accomplished overnight. If you are trying something new for the first time, you may not attain success, but make sure that you have learned lessons from your failure. If you are not able to meet your goal for the first time, it is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. Let us say you have asked for a raise from your boss for which you are being denied. Think about it where things went wrong and what you might have done instead.

6. Stop comparing yourself to others

For building self-confidence, you should be more focused towards your life and don’t unnecessary efforts to make your life like others. Just like you think someone is much smarter, richer and successful than you, you should also give it a thought that there are people who are less smarter, less rich and less successful than you as well. All these are irrelevant thoughts and you should be more focused on achieving your dreams and goals.

7. Learn from your mistakes

Remember God has not made anyone perfect. The fact is that even the most successful people have insecurities. Life is full of ups and downs, same is the case with the insecure feelings as they are also temporary in nature.

If you have committed a mistake, you should be able to judge what went wrong, apologize, and ensure not to commit the same mistake again in the future.

8. Don’t aim for perfection

Remember perfectionism tend to paralyze you and it acts as a blockade in achieving your goals. If you are of the view that whatever you do should be done perfectly, then won’t be able to stay happy with yourself. Instead, you should be proud of yourself of the job well done than spending your time in thinking it to be perfect.

9. Make alterations in your body language

This is where your eye contact, posture, speech, and smile bear great significance. When you smile, not only you are making yourself feel better but the people around will also feel the same. When you talk to somebody, make sure that you have an eye contact with that person; this shows your confidence level. Whenever you speak, make sure that you are not fast, ensure that you have maintained a pace that is easily understandable for the person talking to you, this also projects your overall self-confidence.

10. Be a problem solver

If you are a kind of person who mainly focuses on issues and keep on complaining about different things then it is advisable to change your focus. You should be more concerned about finding solutions rather than focusing on issues, this will boost your self-confidence and give a boost to your career as well.

I believe that human beings are capable of doing anything. All that is required is 4 ‘Cs’- Constancy, Curiosity, Courage, and Confidence. Out of these, confidence is the key element that you need to focus on. When you believe in doing something, make sure that you put your heart and soul in it. Trust me, you will get through with that. This will also assist in building your self-confidence.
