The Pursuit of Happyness is a movie starring Will Smith which was released in 2006. For anyone that’s seen the movie, we can probably all agree that it’s very moving and inspiring. It’s a biographical drama, based on true events that occurred in Chris Gardner’s life; the character played by Will Smith. Chris Gardner is a very successful entrepreneur, investor, stockbroker, motivational speaker, author and philanthropist. The movie however, illustrates his struggles before landing his first steady, paid job as a stockbroker. Before he’s offered the job (as shown in the video above), he faces difficulties being a salesman and making money off a device which he heavily invested in, his wife leaves him, he loses his home and bank account – and he becomes homeless, whilst taking care of his son. This movie is full of powerful scenes and we’re really sorry if we’ve given away too much, but if you haven’t seen it, we highly recommend it.

The scene above is literally from the end of the movie where he finally gets a full-time position at the firm where he’d been doing a 6 month, unpaid internship. This is a touching scene because it displays what success feels like! It’s that feeling where you finally see your hard-work and efforts being rewarded! In life, we go through so many ups and downs! When you’re trying to be successful, you can face so many setbacks that drain your energy both mentally and physically, eat up your finances, cause you physical pain, and so on. It’s not easy to persevere! But success is a journey. It’s not the goal that always inspires people; it’s the journey you went through to achieve the goal. It’s the way you display great human spirit and faith to keep going, despite the obstacles that come in your way! So remind yourself, that you will be successful, and it will be the feeling that’s acted in this scene (to perfection) which will make the journey, no matter how hard, worth it! Don’t give up!

“The future was uncertain, absolutely, and there were many hurdles, twists, and turns to come, but as long as I kept moving forward, one foot in front of the other, the voices of fear and shame, the messages from those who wanted me to believe that I wasn’t good enough, would be stilled.” – Chris Gardner

If you’re wondering what the 5 dollars that’s handed over to Will Smith is all about, it’s the amount of money he lent to the gentleman giving it back (his boss), for cab fare. At the time, he really couldn’t afford to cover for his boss, as it was literally all he had. In this case, what this scene also demonstrates is the law of karma; giving is receiving. He gave his money away, despite not being in a position to, and in return, he got his money back eventually. Not only that, he got a job that will provide even more. The energy you give out, must come back. Karma can be very generous and often gives you more than you bargained for.
