Last month we wrote a post which discussed why happiness is a choice, not a result. In this article, we mentioned the importance of gratitude, and being in the habit of seeing the good in everything, rather than the bad. We concluded that this consistent behaviour alone will lead you to experience more moments of happiness. Recently, we found this video online which also relays the same information, whilst providing a great exercise to help you experience instant happiness! It’s not one of those exercises that takes a lot of time out of your day; this exercise takes only 90 seconds to complete! Investing 90 seconds of your time could make a massive difference to your life! Vishen Lakhiani, the author of this video, states that scientific studies have shown how gratitude can impact our lives in powerful ways. Some of these ways include:

  • Increase in emotional intelligence
  • Better sleep
  • Slower ageing
  • An increase in productivity
  • More of a forgiving attitude
  • Less depression
  • Less anxiety
  • More feelings of being socially connected

Please watch the video above which explains the exercise in greater detail. In summary, the steps for this exercise are the following:

1. Think about 5 things that you’re grateful for in your personal life

2. Think about 5 things that you’re grateful for in your professional life

3. Think about 5 things that you’re grateful for about yourself

It’s recommended that you do this exercise in the morning, upon waking. We’ve actually practised a similar daily habit based around gratitude, for a while now; some of us do it in the morning, while others do it at night, before falling asleep. It really does make a positive difference… Give it a go!
