Indecisiveness is a very common habit, and unfortunately, those deemed to be successful are not associated with this habit. They make decisions very quickly. If you’re someone that struggles with decision-making, then this article will provide an easy solution to making decisions efficiently, by following a short 4-step process.

“Indecision and delays are the parents of failure.” – George Canning

Decisions, always decisions. We constantly have to make them… Even choosing not to choose is a choice. Being indecisive is one of the worst feelings! Are you one of those people who cannot make a decision, no matter how much you brood over a dilemma? This post is for you! It’s time to stop that vicious circle from ruining your day and even your life!

To begin with, indecisiveness is normal. A few decades ago, decisions were simpler to make because there wasn’t much choice. Children often ended up following the same career path as their parents, social interactions were limited to few people and there were much less products to chose from. Modernization has brought a myriad of new commodities and possibilities. Nowadays, not only do we have a lot of decisions to make, but also some of them are very complex. In some cases, you even face a dilemma: no matter how much time and how hard you think about it, you cannot seem to set your mind on a solution. These situations, very often the ones involving relationships, are pure agony! We’re here to offer you a way of dealing with that kind of indecision that is making you anxious and unhappy!

Fact #1

One “solution” is to think about your problem long and hard… Which is usually what most people tend to do. But that not only often does not help us find the right answer to our dilemma, but it can also make us even more confused and depressive.

Fact #2

Our second reflex often is to seek advice. In some cases, it could work, but very frequently, others cannot help us because only we are aware of everything that is at stake, and nobody knows us better than we know ourselves. Worst, by following someone else’s decision, we could end up doing something that does not come from our own will and regret it.

So constantly thinking about the problem or blindly following someone’s advice is probably not the best solution. Instead, here is what we recommend:

Action Plan

1. Set a day and/or hour where you will make your decision.

2. Until then, give yourself a break and do not think about your problem. It will allow you to take some distance away from what is at stake, which surprisingly is the best way to find a solution! Meanwhile, your brain will be processing all the information in your subconscious. Plus, a calm mind will allow you to make a more informed decision!

Our tip: If you still cannot stop brooding over your dilemma, exercise! That will clear up your mind.

3. On date #1, weigh up the pros and cons of every possible solution and make a decision.

4. Apply your decision (do not think anymore)! No matter what happens, you made the best decision you could in your situation at that moment. You have no control over what happens afterwards, but you will learn from it and maybe do better next time.

“The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision.” – Maimonides

In short, do not endlessly analyze. There is a limit to rationality. Make a decision, go through the process with confidence and move on! Remember, there may not be a right answer, but you can choose how to go through it.
