Yet, no matter how hard you try, you can’t stop hitting the snooze button. Trust me, you don’t have to let productivity slip off from your hands. Let me share some easy ways to train yourself to wake up early.

1. Go to bed early

This is important as far as rising early is concerned. If you haven’t slept for adequate hours you won’t be able to get out of bed and you feel still feel sleepy even if you manage to get up. You need discipline here. But, when you wake up early in the morning, you tend to feel sleepy during the night time. You can also choose to set “go to bed alarm” as a reminder. Make sure you have avoided stimulating screen time before sleeping and instead spend half an hour winding down if you can do that.

2. Set up one-minute early alarm  

Let us assume you want to rise at 6:15 in the morning so, make sure you have set the alarm for 6:14. This difference is minimal and your body is unaware of it. This will give you one or two minutes to laze around before you finally get up at your scheduled time i.e. 6:15. As for the alarm, make sure you have used something loud, but make sure it is not irritating.

The best way is to use the soft alarms, you can easily find them on your smartphone or you can set your favourite song as an alarm. Adopt this simple trick i.e. keep your smartphone at a distance so that you will have to make some effort to reach to your mobile when it rings in the morning, this will certainly wake you up.

3. Make an early morning routine

Having a reason to get up early really helps. You can use your extra time in the morning to do the things that matter the most. Make sure you are not surfing the net, instead do constructive things. You can do the following things:

  • Eat breakfast – If you are eating healthy breakfast in the morning, you will not incline towards eating junk food. Moreover, eating breakfast has its own benefits such as getting much-needed energy for the day, increases your focus, cuts down morning crankiness, boosts your metabolism, and keeps you away from overeating.
  • Cook food – When you prepare your own meal, it gives control over the ingredients and over the results as well.
  • Exercise – Doing exercise in the morning also has its own benefits. When you exercise in the morning – you stay active throughout the day, boosts your metabolism, improves physical & mental energy, helps develop self-discipline, and get better sleep.

4. Drink water before going to bed

Drink few glasses of water before you go to bed. In the morning, a full bladder will make you get up. Once you are out of your bed and going towards the bathroom, it is a lot easier to stay up afterwards. Make sure you engage yourself in some activity such as reading the morning newspaper. This will stop you from sleeping again.

5. Have a night routine

It is said that structured nights mean structured mornings. In case your night routine has structure, this will mean you are all set to wake up early in the morning. When you established a set time to eat, finish off some task, make preparations for the following day, and finally go to sleep, all this will surely make sure you awake in the morning at a set time.

6. Reward yourself

When you are training yourself to wake up early, you will certainly come across certain setbacks. It is important not to criticise yourself for not waking up but at the same time, you should reward yourself when you do. Remember, it is these small wins that will end up motivating you and finally playing an imperative role in building a routine of waking up early.

7. Sleep well

You are not just struggling mentally, but physically as well. You have to ensure you are having sound sleep in the night. Don’t watch television or play games on your smartphones for long in the night. Make sure you have a set sleeping time in order to wake up early in the morning.

This is where your regular diet and following a regular exercise regime also plays an important role. Not many people are aware of the fact that sleeping also has various following benefits:

  • Improve memory – Your mind stays occupied while you snooze. While you are sleeping, you get to strengthen memories and also practice all those skills you have learned while you were awake, this is called consolidation.
  • Curb inflammation – Inflammation is connected to premature ageing, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and arthritis. Research has shown that all those people who sleep for less than six hours have higher blood levels and various other illnesses.
  • Be a winner – If you are a sportsperson, then there is one way you can achieve success i.e. having enough sleep. Having adequate sleep really helps in reducing fatigue and increase overall stamina.
  • Have a healthy weight – If you are planning to go on a diet, then make sure you have planned an earlier bedtime as well. As per the researchers at the University of Chicago, dieters who were well rested ended up losing 54% of their weight. When you sleep less, you tend to feel hungry as well.
