You do not find the happy life; you make it.

Every part of your life should help you achieve happiness and serenity, including your home. Yes, your home especially should be a place where you can have a peace of mind after a long day of work. You should be able to relax and refill your batteries so that you are ready to tackle all challenges that await you during the next day.

However, most people live in unorganised and cluttered apartments that feel more like a prison cell than a place of relaxation. But don’t worry; we are here to help. Today, we have prepared seven ways you can improve your home, and through it improve your way of living.

1. A personal corner

First, you should create your own personal corner. Whether you like to paint, read books, or anything else, you should create a space where you can do that undisturbed. Don’t mistake the personal corner for the home office. These two are entirely different things. Your personal corner should be a place where you come to relax, not to finish some work.

2. Warm lighting

Sometimes apartments and houses look sterile and cold. While many different things can cause this effect, bad lighting is the most common reason and one that is easily resolved. White LED light bulbs are the main culprit and just by replacing them with the regular yellow ones, you can create a more warming and welcoming environment. Of course, you don’t have to change every bulb in the house. Instead, you can use regular light bulbs for your reading lamps, and LEDs for your main lighting fixtures.

3. Indoor greenery

Indoor plants are an excellent way to breathe some life into your apartment. Plants are not just beautiful decorative pieces; they are good for your health as well. You don’t have to go overboard and buy colourful flowers, even a potted plant like a cactus would do the trick. Just remember that plants need attention and regular watering. So, if you can’t commit to that, maybe you should opt for any of our other suggestions.

4. Swimming pool

An ideal way to get some effective physical exercise, and achieve inner peace, is to take a dip. A pool is the perfect addition to your home when it comes to self-improvement and enjoyment. If you’re upgrading or planning to install a pool, don’t forget about beautiful pool lights which can make this experience even better. Besides that, nothing helps you get a good night’s sleep like an evening swim.

5. Clean space

There is nothing worse for your mental health than living in a messy apartment. A cluttered and filthy apartment can cause you a lot of stress without you even knowing. That is why you should make it a habit to clean your household regularly. We know that house chores are not something that most people enjoy. But if you properly plan and distribute the chores among family members, everybody will have an easier time accomplishing them, and in return, you will live in a happier environment.

6. Backyard retreat

Another fantastic home improvement idea is to build a backyard retreat. Many people don’t realise that spending time outside in the fresh air has significant benefits for our mental and physical health. Sure, indoor greenery and a clean apartment can help you relax, but there is nothing better for stress relief than spending time outside.

Even if you can’t afford to go hiking in the forest, the next best solution is to build a backyard retreat. The best part, you can build your own place of serenity without spending a fortune. You can plant some lush greenery, build a patio, create a fire pit, etc. It all depends on what you like and what helps you relax.

7. Comfortable bed

Finally, if you want to fall asleep happy, as well as wake up happy, then buy yourself a comfortable bed. Sleep is more important than most people give it credit. How well you sleep the night before can literally affect the rest of your day in a positive or negative manner.

Sleeping well is not just about passing out for eight hours. You need to be comfortable while sleeping and feel rested once you wake up. If this is not the case, then it’s time to change your bed or at least the mattress. Just don’t try to save money on mattresses because buying a cheap one will not change the situation for the better.

There are many more ways to improve yourself by improving your home, but let’s end on these seven. If you feel stressed or just unhappy after you get home, then it’s time to implement some of our suggestions. You don’t have to go overboard and implement every single one. Instead, start small. For example, get yourself a couple of potted plants, and expand from there.
