Trying to make sure you always dress well with limited funds can be tough. To try and help we have put together six tips which can help you dress well without breaking the bank.

1. Shop around

This may sound obvious but it is surprising how many people don’t do this. With the internet, it is so easy to find a product and compare the prices between hundreds of stores within minutes. If you are someone that prefers high street shopping then you can do this too, by hopping from shop to shop.

This only really applies to brands which are sold by more than one store. For brands such as Zara, you won’t be able to shop around because they are the only people that sell Zara clothing. Other brands, however, such as Diesel for example, can be found in lots of places as they stock their products in a range of stores; both on the high street and online.

So, next time you are out and you see a product that you really like, don’t just buy it straight away. Have a quick search online and see if you can get the product cheaper. The other bonus with shopping online is that you can sometimes find a discount code which will save you even more! For example, American Eagle discount codes are a great way to save money and still look great.

2. eBay/Depop

I understand that these may not seem like the most glamorous places to shop, however they can be very cheap in comparison to stores and the products might be exactly the same. On eBay there is always a lot of people who have bought items of clothing as a gift for someone, but the person who it was intended for does not like the product, or it is the wrong size. This is what you should be looking for because people will usually sell these at big discounts compared to the RRP; the product will be exactly the same as what you would get from the store.

3. Plan your outfits

How many items of clothing do you currently have in your wardrobe that you have never worn? I know from experience that items of clothing on their own often look really nice but when it comes to pairing it with something else to make an outfit, they don’t look so good together. As a result, the item of clothing never gets worn.

This is why I recommend planning outfits, so that when you go shopping you know what you are looking for. Otherwise, you’ll just end up buying items of clothing that will never be worn because they don’t match with anything else you have.

4. Go global

This can be a long shot but sometimes it works. Using exchange rate differences can work to your advantage when shopping online depending on where you live. I remember a few years ago I saw some trainers online that I really wanted. These trainers were on a UK website for a certain price, I then decided to search the US for those trainers and came across a few websites selling the exact same pair but for the dollar equivalent.

Say these trainers were £150 in the UK and $150 in the US. If you live in the UK and the exchange rate is around $1.5 to £1 for example, then you can get these trainers from the US store for £100. That’s £50 cheaper than if you buy them in the UK. Just note that you may have to pay a little bit extra for shipping when purchasing from a different country, but the saving could still be significantly bigger.

5. Outlets

Outlets are great especially if you have your eye set on a particular designer item, e.g. Mulberry handbag. Outlets usually sell products that could not be sold in the regular stores; possibly because they are from the previous season or because they are odd sizes. They can be a great way to get designer brands at a big discount and often you will still receive the same aftercare service too.

To find local outlets I usually just google the area I am in, followed by the word outlet. You can usually find something close to you. The US has some of the best outlet malls in the world, so if you are planning a trip there then I would suggest doing your shopping whilst you’re there.

6. Sales

Sales are wonderful and most people go crazy for sales. However, the key to making the most of a sale is not to buy everything you see just because it is discounted. A lot of the time, items that are on sale are usually items that the store cannot sell due to the product not being as popular as others, or because it is an uncommon size.

When shopping in a sale, make sure you know what you are looking for otherwise you can end up buying loads of rubbish that you will never end up wearing. Also, don’t be one of those people that buys designer brands in the sale just because they have a big designer name all over the product. Buy products that you genuinely like, or things that suit your style. Do not buy products because they are seemingly expensive and you want to impress people.

That’s it for this post. It is hoped that you found this post useful. If you think that someone else could find this post beneficial, please go ahead and share it.
