With the expectations often set by media outlets and public figures, we can sometimes feel like there are a lot of pressures from the outside world to be something we’re not. These influences often stop us from being who we truly are, so we can fit in with the rest of the world. However, being yourself is a must; it will make you feel better about yourself through your beliefs and values. It leads to a calmer, happier and a more relieved you. Below, we detail 5 reasons why you should always be yourself:

1. You have been created to fulfil a purpose, whether you know it or not. You are unique and have been made in the eyes of the Creator. Therefore you are beautiful, individual and cannot be replicated – there is no other mind like yours. You are needed on this Earth to fulfil your purpose and help the world in a positive way. In order to do this you must live as you; no-one else.

2. Relating to purpose, it is easier to be successful when you’re doing things as yourself. This is because we stay consistent with our actions and ideas which help us identify ourselves with the world. When you’re being yourself, you’re able to connect with individuals through the purity of your heart. What comes from the heart, goes to the heart, and that’s why people will always feel the energy in what you say or do. When we pretend to be someone we’re not, we always have to think about how we act, which can lead to inconsistencies. Most people can feel the difference in energy between those who are being genuine and those who are hiding behind another character. If people don’t like you for being yourself, then that’s fine; they are not needed in your life. This leads us on to our next point…

3. You can discover those that genuinely appreciate your existence. When we show who we really are, there will be people who love us for it, and those who may not. However we don’t need anyone who doesn’t appreciate our worth and what we stand for. The people who truly care about you and support your being, will be present in your life in a positive way. They will be the ones that actually make a difference. Even if you’re starting a career as a music artist – think about; if you’re always yourself, you will attract people who genuinely connect with you through your character and music. You’ll be relatable to those that matter, and also be respected. It’s those people who will be the ones who like, subscribe, share and recommend your content to others.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” Bernard M. Baruch

4. You will make better decisions which will lead to a happier life. Only you know what you want in life, what gives you joy and what you truly feel inside. When we live life as our true selves, we think for ourselves. This allows us to have more clarity in our heads, and live life in the way we want to. When you’re not yourself, you often end up taking on other people’s beliefs and values. As a result, we live a completely different life to the one which will satisfy us the most.

5. You can be more helpful to others. We’ve already mentioned that we can be more purposeful in point 1 – this has a direct influence on others as you make an impact on the world. But if we consider the other points too, once we start loving ourselves and thinking with clarity, we can teach others to do the same. The fact that you love yourself, makes you easier to be loved by others. This message alone will help the insecurities that so many people face, and will also encourage them to love themselves. While you increase confidence in yourself and get comfortable in your own skin, you set the way for others to do so as well. A happier you is also a kinder, and more loving you.
